Dr Ian Cook (WA)
I would like to congratulate the organisers of Senator On-Line for this endeavour. At a time when many Australians seem to be disheartened with the processes of formal politics, a project that encourages greater interaction, scrutiny and debate is welcome - Dr James Arvanitakis, PhD. Honours Coordinator, Member of the Ally Program, Humanities and Languages, University of Western Sydney
Dr James Arvanitakis (NSW)
Senator On-Line pushes the boundaries on traditional political practises. I think it’s a very interesting and refreshing decision making concept – Linton Scott, IT Specialist, NSW
Linton Scott (NSW)
Yes, I will vote for SOL. SOL provides the opportunity to keep up with what our politicians are doing, and also to have some influence on how they exercise their vote. We readily criticise our political representatives, but in fact we only have ourselves to blame – David Lamont, Farmer, NSW
David Lamont (NSW)
Sounds like SOL could be a voice of the future and realistic way to get youth involved in politics. The way forward – Jacqueline Chartres, TV Presenter and Sports Reporter, NSW
Jacqueline Chartres (NSW)
i just like it because it facilitates and encourages political involvement and responsibility - Tim Bowes Lewis, Engineer, NSW
Timothy Bowes Lewis (NSW)
This breakthrough concept, which allows ordinary Australians to have a REAL say in our government's decisions can only be described as "amazing!" - We will be able to participate in forums and debate issues important to us and then cast our votes! (It's almost like we are able to sit in the senate ourselves!). Please support this wonderful idea! - It will change the future of democracy in this country - David N, QLD
David N. (QLD)
Senator On-Line would give the people of Australia the ability to challenge bills put to parliament that they don’t agree with, even though they may have agreed with election promises made by the party at election time. With public support at the 2007 Federal Election, SOL can change the face of Australian politics. The people of Australia will be able to voice their opinions mid-term without expensive and time consuming lobbying, or difficult to organise demonstrations – Mike Tyers, Griffith Electorate, QLD
Mike Tyers (QLD)
I think this is a great idea. I am looking forward to understanding fully how it will function. This will give me a feeling of empowerment that I can participate in the government of my country - Geoff Winton, Senior Project Team Leader, WA
Geoff Winton (WA)
You guys have added a new and true dimension to democracy. I heard the concept on 702 earlier and I love it. I had been thinking that with the Internet now strongly in place that there should be online referendums in place regularly. Your idea is a way for the people to take responsibility for the affairs of state and also to start sharing some of the blame or indeed taking the credit for good or bad decisions. For too long Democracy has been about handing over all of our authority and responsibility to others. And, too often the people we give that power too become or simply are corrupt. Then we the people have convenient scape-goats to moan about but God forbid that we take some responsibility and get involved - Dean Driscoll, VIC
Dean Driscoll (VIC)
I believe people can run themselves and democracy works if the information is made available - Dr David McGrath, ACT
Dr David McGrath (ACT)
your senator cannot run off and do their own thing once elected, and getting people more engaged in the process means they make decisions more carefully – John Lattin, Social Worker, SA
John Lattin (SA)
This is superb, exactly what I was imagining we might be doing one day. I am strongly interested in democracy, or more accurately, rational, inclusive and accountable debate in pursuit of the best possible way forward. I hope Senator online grows to offer these values to the country – Gordon Young, VIC
Gordon Young (VIC)
I have dropped into a polling station to vote early as I will most likely not be able to vote on the day of election. As I was undecided I had to pick someone to vote for in the Senate ballot, and picked SOL. Ever since about 16 years ago I knew online democracy is the way to go, being involved with Internet in its early days. With Internet now being part of life for most people of voting age I think finally you have a chance, so I hope you will succeed and we will have a better and stronger participation in the political life! - Lubosh Hanuska, Teacher, Victoria
